Formed in the year 2000, the state of Chhattisgarh is fast emerging to be an important tourist centre and an industrial hub. The roadways in Chhattisgarh state comes under the purview of Chhattisgarh Transport Department, with Shri Rajesh Munat as the transport minister. This department performs and supervises over various activities related to transportation, keeping in mind the public convenience and vehicle population in this state. Almost all the managerial activities of this department have been computerised, to provide the citizens an effective and efficient means of accessing various records and getting their grievances resolved in the least possible time. A variety of computerised services are provided to the citizens here, including e- sewa, license, online permit system, dealer point registration, online permit frequency etc. It is said to have been the first state to have successfully implemented Vahan (A national portal for vehicle registration) and Sarathi (A national portal for driving license). Apart from various steps for repair and maintenance of roads in Chhattisgarh, the government is also taking various efforts for the development of high speed road corridors for the improvement of traffic and road connectivity services in this state. There are RTOs distributed geographically, throughout the state for the convenience of the people here.

Roadways in Chhattisgarh
Being an important industrial centre, it is necessary for Chhattisgarh to have good road connectivity to other Indian states. The road infrastructure here thus is undergoing major transformations. The length of the roadways here is about 35,388 kilometres, with connectivity, throughout the country. Out of this, about 2,184 kilometres is taken up by the national highways, while the state highways occupy about 3,611 kilometres. The remaining are taken up by district roads and village roads. Regular passenger buses are available, connecting major cities here to nearby areas, as well as rural villages, thus providing convenient as well a cost effective transport services.

Bus Services in Chhattisgarh
Recently Central government approved state government's proposal and sanctioned 442 city buses for 21 premier cities in Chhattisgarh. This was aimed for providing better transport facility in the state. The project to introduce 442 buses would include both AC and non-AC buses. Twin cities of Bhilai-Durg region were allotted the maximum of 110 buses, 50 buses for Bilaspur, 42 for Korba, 35 for Ambikapur, 20 for Rajnandgaon and others for Mahasamund, Chirmiri, Kanker, Jagdalpur, Dhamtari etc.Railways in Chhattisgarh
Railways in Chhattisgarh play a major role in transportation of passengers as well s cargo within and outside the state. The entire railway network here is operated by the South East Central Railway Zone, with Bilaspur being its zonal headquarters. Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur Railway Junction are the major railway junctions here, as they are the starting point of many long distance trains and are well connected to major Indian cities. The state of Chhattisgarh accounts for about one-sixth of our country’s railway revenue. It is also said to be having the highest freight loading in the country. Durg, Champa, Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur, Mahasamund are the major railway heads in this region. To increase the concentration of railways in this state, various new railway lines have been proposed and many new projects are in progress including Raigarh-Mand Colliery to Bhupdeopur rail line, Dalli-Rajhara–Jagdalpur rail line, Pendra Road-Gevra Road Rail Line rail line and Barwadih-Chirmiri rail line. A metro line connecting Durg-Bhilai-Raipur-Naya Raipur has also been proposed.

Chhattisgarh state has a systematic and organised network of roadways and railways connecting this state to major Indian states and cities. At present, Swami Vivekanada Airport at Raipur is the only airport serving the visitors and residents in Chhattisgarh state. It is well connected to major adjoining places by regular flights. Apart from this, there are airstrips at Bhilai, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, Baikunth, Raigarh, Ambikapur, Korba, Jashpur and Durg. In addition, airstrips have been proposed at Korba, Balrampur, Rajnandgaon, Surajpur, Bijapur, Dantewada, Kabirdham and Kanker. There are helipads throughout the state, used for special occasions. Air Taxi facility is available connecting Raipur to places like Raigarh, Ambikapur, Jashpur, Korba, Jagdalpur etc.

Formerly called as Mana Airport, this airport is located Mana in Raipur is one of the busiest ones in this state. Named after the great saint, Swami Vivekanand, this airport is well designed to meet the international standards. Known for its superior services, this airport topped the list of best non metro airports in the country in the year 2014. This airport connects Chhattisgarh state to major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Indore etc by regular flights.

Raigarh Airport
Raigarh Airport is located near Kondatarai in the state of Chhattisgarh and is presently used for choppers and small aircrafts. The State Government along with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), has decided to develop Raigarh as the second airport here for domestic flights. The total cost of this is estimated to be around Rs. 280 crores and the airport is expected to start functioning by around May 2017.

Bilaspur Airport
This airport is located at Chakarbhatta village, to the south of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. Though it is owned and managed by the Airports Authority of India, it is currently used for pilot training and general aviation. It has been proposed by the Indian army to construct a training facility for the Special Forces in this airport.
